An analytical data based on time from 2000 to 2011 proved that Bt corn was more efficient in the utilization of land, fertilizer, labor and pesticide resources.
- Bt corn consumed 15% less land than OH seed users in producing one metric ton of corn grain from 2003 to 2011.
- On the average, Bt corn growers applied nine percent less fertilizer than OH seed users on making one metric ton of corn grain from 2003 to 2011. This yield increment was mainly due to Bt corn resistance to corn borer.
- Labor use efficiency was estimated at 26% less labor utilization (pre-harvest labor) than the OH corn seed users.
- The major agronomic characteristic of Bt corn is its resistance to corn borer infestations and this brought a decline of 54% in the cumulative use of pesticide among the Bt corn users versus OH seed users to produce the same volume of corn grain from 2003 to 2011.
