DOST to celebrate the 40th Atomic Energy Week

LEARN more about the different applications of nuclear science and technology in agriculture, medicine and other fields in the upcoming Atomic Energy Week on December 10 to 14 led by the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI). 


With the theme “Nuclear Science, Technology and Innovation: Engine for Growth and Development”, the said event will feature exhibits, technical sessions, guided tours of facilities and laboratories, and video showing at the DOST-PNRI in Diliman, Quezon City. 

The celebration will kick off on December 10 with the opening of exhibits and preview of the Molybdenum99/Technetium-99m generator. Technetium-99m is a facility designed for local preparation and production of Technetium-99m, the most commonly-used radioisotope for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. 

Also lined up is the National Nuclear Science quiz for high school students in partnership with DOST Regional Offices and Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center at Mall of Asia in Pasay City 

Other events lined up for the Atomic Energy Week are the Technical sessions, Demo on Industrial Applications of Radiography and Tracer Techniques, Technical Exhibits , and Film showings. 

Started in 1973, the annual celebration of Atomic Energy Week celebration is mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 1211.It aims to generate awareness of the Filipino people on the beneficial uses of nuclear science and technology in food and agriculture, health and medicine, industry, energy, and the environment.
