Next Wave Cities Road Show to Launch in Naga

THE Information and Communications Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-ICTO) together with the Information Technology - Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) and the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP) will be holding a series of events around the country promoting the Information Technology - Business Process Management (BPM) Industry and alternative outsourcing destinations outside Metro Manila and Cebu called Next Wave Cities (NWCs).
Next Wave Cities Road Show Schedule 2013
Naga City, one of the top 10 NWCs in 2012 will first stage this big event. Speakers from various IT-BPM organizations such as the Animation Council of the Philippines (ACPI), Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP),  Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), Philippine Software Industry Association of the Philippines (PSIA)  and the Healthcare Information Management Outsourcing Association of the Philippines (HIMOAP)  will be addressing an audience composed of different stakeholders and influencers and mostly of college students regarding career opportunities available in the IT-BPM industry in their own area.

DOST-ICT Office Executive Director Louis Casambre said that, “The Next Wave Cities program is a key component of DOST’s inclusive development agenda called Smarter Philippines. ICT’s have enabled the Filipino to work abroad without leaving home either as workers in the IT-BPM industry or doing work from home through micro sourcing. The Next Wave Cities Road show helps bring about awareness about the IT-BPM industry, especially the non-voice sector where the Filipino can stand out.”

The road show also aims to promote ITpreneurship to participants at the event. Talks and testimonials from successful IT start-ups and e-commerce advocates will be given by notable speakers such as: Janette Toral of Digital Filipino and Ademar Tutor of successful IT start-up Codetoki.

Jose Mari Mercado, president and CEO of IBPAP said that “Next Wave Cities are vital to the growth of the IT-BPM industry in the Philippines, there is a multitude of talent that can be found in these high-growth areas, other than hoping to fill our ranks with these talents, the Next Wave Cities Road show also hopes to inspire a new generation of ITpreneurs that will setup IT businesses of their own”.

The nine other cities included in this year’s NWC Road Show are Baguio, Laoag, Tacloban, Butuan, Puerto Princessa, Cagayan De Oro, Tarlac, Iloilo and Rizal and will run from August to November.

The Avenue Plaza Hotel will be the official venue for the Naga Leg of the NWC 2013 Road Show on August 15 and 16.

The Information and Communications Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology is the Philippine Government’s lead agency on ICT related matters. Its primary thrusts are in the ICT Industry Development, eGovernment, ICT policy development, Internet for all and Cybersecurity.
