The Winning Aftermath of 2011 INC Unity Games

“If you lose today, win tomorrow.
In this never-ending spirit of challenge is the heart of a victor”
                       -  Daisaku Ikeda, Japanese philosopher

After two consecutive Saturdays of May 21 and May 28, the Ecclesiastical District of Metro Manila Central (MMC) was the concluded over-all Champion with 50 Gold, 20 Silver and 8 Bronze, total of 78 medals.  Followed by Metro Manila-West, South, East and North districts respectively.

Sports can be entertaining, stress-relieving exercises, or skill that may need passion, dedication, persistence and hard work.   In the spirit of brotherly love and unity, the 2011 INC Unity Games succeeded where the pride of winning, courage to face challenges and art of losing were also valued.   The important thing here was the victory of unity of IGLESIA NI CRISTO brethren was once again shown in this event.  The spirit of sportsmanship made each a champion.

The red, hot and high moment of cheering to our team MMC with the beats of drum and chimes of xylophone was full of energy: “GO CENTRAL, GO, GO, GO METRO CENTRAL!” While the other team played the song: “GO WEST!...” Nothing beats the LIVE watching with encouraging shouting and winning movements, it was real fun!  All of us felt the enthusiasm and power of the players and the cheerers whether red or blue teams (or other colored uniforms)! :)

This will surely be an annual event as Bro. Dan V. Orosa, the district minister of MMC in the recent awarding affair said that next year this INC Unity Games will be a regional competition where other countries of other ecclesiastical districts  will also be participating.

Details of the score and games can be seen in this site:  http://games.inc-unity.com/scoreboard/

Observing the Value of Winning and Losing

Winning is great and learning how to become a winner is an attitude, a habit.  But what it takes to be a winner?  Michael Jordan, a successful basketball player shared the following:

I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come.”

“I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

“I've never been afraid to fail.”

And so Jordan’s performance soared high in basketball games.

Remember that a number of failures may be experienced in all great sports activities and related life’s accomplishments.  But what matters most are the lessons learned and the improvements done in weak areas for the next competition or in the challenges of life.  We always hear these favorite advice: “Try and try until you succeed;”  “more and better practice makes perfect;”  “better luck next time!;” and "Be a good sport!

The mere fact that you or your team had done your best is already a positive action, and that’s a winning attitude!

See you next year!  Just play. Have fun and enjoy the games!

"Whenever you get knocked down in the game of life,
immediately get up, get better and get going again."
                                                                     -  Greg Hickman

The Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) Unity Games kick off in a 3k fun run in Quirino Grandstand, Manila tomorrow at 6:00AM.  The 2011 Unity Games is the first multi-sport and multi-district event and the largest athletic competition to be hosted for members of the Iglesia ni Cristo.

In this project of the Church’s Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo aimed to bring together members of the Church in a friendly athletic competition. Sports can develop discipline, responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance, the Unity Games seeks even higher: the fostering of the biblical teachings of brotherly love and unity among members of the Church of Christ.
This affair will be held on May 21 and 28 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, with the athletes coming from the five ecclesiastical districts in Metro Manila, Philippines: Metro Manila North (yellow colored uniforms), Metro Manila South (white colored uniforms), Metro Manila East (green colored uniforms), Metro Manila West (blue colored uniforms) and Metro Manila Central (red colored uniforms).

The event includes badminton, basketball, bowling, chess, table tennis, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and a 3K Fun Run. More than 1000 athletes have already registered and they are set to compete for a total of 261 medals.

The opening ceremonies will begin at the Rizal Stadium on May 21 at 7:00am, with the Parade of Athletes and a special program for everyone’s entertainment.

With the proliferation of lifestyle diseases like diabetes, heart diseases, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease (a form of brain disease) it is just high time to plan and change to balanced diet, healthy lifestyle and choose the best environment (if possible less pollution) for us.

The INC’s administration values holistic health and wellness of the members such as their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Be part of this big event, be there early! Remind you to wear your district's color. Support your athletes!

To my dear brethren and to BUKLOD in the district of Metro Manila Central, let us be more united in this kind of activity!

You may post your comments here too.
